If You Get A Flat Tire, What Do You Do?
by Dutch Silverstein May 28, 2021When you have a flat tire, it can be challenging to remember what to do at that moment. You want to keep yourself and your loved ones as safe as possible, so of course, regular tire maintenance and servicing can go a long way to ease your peace of mind. However, even the best of intentions to bring your vehicle in for regular servicing can go awry, and that is why it is so important to have a safety plan of action if you get a flat!
It’s a good idea to check your car’s tires regularly. However, some classic signs of a flat while driving include a bumpy ride, not going as fast as expected, vibrations either in the drive or the steering wheel, or potentially the steering wheel pulling to one side or the other. Carrying a tire pressure gauge can be a super-easy way to make sure your tires never get too low!
Read on for more safety tips in case you find yourself in the all-too-common position of having a flat tire while out and about.
Step One: Pullover
Put on your hazard lights, and slowly pull over to the side of the road. Make sure you pick a safe spot, one where you can quickly exit your vehicle without impeding traffic or running the risk of being hit.
Step Two: Check the Tire
Check to see what the condition of your tire is. Is the tread worn out? Is the tire flat? Can you see anything sticking out of the tire, like a nail or a screw?
Step three: Call roadside assistance
Just because you have a flat tire doesn’t mean you have to go it alone! It pays to have some roadside assistance, like AAA, so that you can have help when something like this goes wrong with your vehicle. Roadside assistance can help you change your tire, or else tow you to A & M Auto Service so that we can take care of you!
