Signs & Causes of Digital Dashboard Failure in Your Audi in Pineville

by Dutch Silverstein October 18, 2021

Though Audis are generally known as reliable and innovative vehicles, sometimes that innovation leads to problems. For example, the digital dashboard can run into some dangerous issues. This display replaces the typical speedometer, gas gauge, and other display implements with fully digital versions.

In most cases, this doesn’t mean your display is going to blackout entirely, though that might happen in care circumstances, but minor issues can lead to much bigger ones down the line if a car owner is unobservant or incautious. That’s why today we’re going to give you the rundown on what signs you can look for to let you know when your display is having problems. We’ll also discuss some of the possible causes of these issues. Let’s get started.

Signs of Digital Display Problems

Of course, if your entire display suddenly disappears, that’s a pretty good sign that there’s something wrong, but in most cases, you will begin to see smaller problems before something so disastrous happens.

Let’s start with the two parts of the dashboard you’re probably looking at the most often: the speedometer and the gas gauge. Because you look at them all the time, these are probably the most obvious places to look for potential issues.

With the speedometer, watch carefully whenever you accelerate or decelerate. Does it seem like the speedometer is keeping up with your car as you speed up or slow down? Alternatively, does it seem like the speedometer is moving erratically even when you are not accelerating or decelerating, like it can’t decide what speed you’re actually going?

Both of these are signs that you should bring your Audi to see an experienced technician. As you can probably surmise, a broken speedometer is incredibly dangerous, both for your health and possibly for your wallet. If you don’t know how fast you’re really going, that can lead to accidents, and it also increases the likelihood that you will get pulled over and have to pay a fine for speeding.

On a similar note, keeping an eye on your Audi’s gas gauge can let you know if there’s a problem with the electronic display. If you get gas and the gauge doesn’t seem to move, or the amount of gas you supposedly have seems to fluctuate wildly from one day to the next, there’s probably something wrong with the display.

The last thing you want is to run out of gas, especially when your car is saying the tank should be nearly full, so if you notice any strange discrepancies like that, be sure to take note of it and get the problem fixed as soon as you can.

Causes of Digital Dashboard Failure

Anything that relies on electricity to run suffers from the same hiccups, and the digital display in your Audi is no different. Some potential reasons behind your display’s failure include:

  • Leaks: Water or most liquids and electricity don’t mix. If you’ve been having some trouble with leaks in your Audi, or even if there was a particularly rainy day and your car was outside for it, that liquid could have gotten into the electrical components and caused issues.
  • Circuit board malfunction: Many cars these days, including Audis, rely on computer systems to keep themselves running at peak performance. However, when that computer or sensor becomes faulty, that spells trouble for many different parts of a vehicle’s inner systems, not just the digital display. If you notice that several electrical components in your vehicle are malfunctioning, there is a good chance that the circuit board is the culprit.
  • Starter issues: The starter is what gives your car the spark of life, so to speak. If it’s not working, then nothing else in the car will, either.
